SCULPTOR AND PORTRAIT ARTIST

Sculptured artwork and portraits for customers in the UK

MOTHER AND INFANT. Sculpted in cornish polyphant, 66cms long.

A theme that absorbs me, and that I try to express in my work, is the feeling, or thought, behind a pose or gesture.

About me

I  was taught modelling in clay by the contemporary sculptress Gerda Rubenstein, whose work I particularly admire.  Artists whose work has inspired me include Rodin, Camille Claudel and Degas. More recently, the work of Laurence Broderick, tempted me to start sculpting in stone.

I particularly enjoy the translucency and interesting veining of working in alabaster, and the various coloured speckling of Cornish polyphant (soapstone). I also model in wax, which I like for the speed with which one can work, - and it doesn’t need to be kept damp!

For portrait busts I work in clay, or can produce pencil studies
